Rebuilding a Culture
A WebQuest about Native Americans in Wisconsin

You are a museum curator at a local public museum. You accidentally have cleaned and broken most of the displays of the Native American Culture Exhibit. It is 2:00 AM, and your supervisor will be coming in to work at 9:00 in the morning. With your seven hours, you decide to go to the Time Travel Exhibit and use the actual-working time machine to go back in time and recover all of the information you destroyed.

Introduction
As the museum curator you have accidentally cleaned and broken most of the displays of the Native American Culture Exhibit. At 9:00 AM your supervisor will be coming in to work. With your seven hours, you decide to go to the Time Travel Exhibit and use the actual-working time machine to go back in time and recover all of the information you destroyed.  When you get back you will share what you learned with the class by constructing a 3-D display or teaching them about a Native American craft.

Task
  • You and your group will learn about a Native Wisconsin Tribe and build a representation of their culture.  The model/display should include information about food, shelter, traditions, and the arts/crafts of the tribe.
  • You need to provide as much detail as possible.  You will use the Internet and other print materials such as books and articles about various tribes.
  • Your group will decide what the display should look like and you will be graded on your teamwork, effort and final product.

Process
  1. Get your group and tribe assignment from your teacher.
  2. Learn how to use this WebQuest by participating in the demonstration done by your teacher.
  3. Get the learning guide from your teacher, so you can keep good notes about the tribe.
  4. Go to the TIME MACHINE to begin reading information using the Internet links provided or read the copies of print materials your teacher has for you in the room.
  5. Fill out the learning guides with the information you read about your tribe.
  6. When the learning guide is complete, determine how you will create a display about your tribe.  You can either do a 3-D display or teach the rest of the class how to do a Native American craft.

Evaluation

  • Your teacher will give you a rubric to help you determine how well you represented the tribe's culture.

Conclusion

Now that you have completed the project the museum can open it's doors again.  We are sure that the display is even better than the first one!
Congratulations!!
